Obama Statue in Jakarta Indonesia

obamaA statue of a young Barack Obama will be inaugurated on Thursday, December 10, 2009 in Jakarta at 11:00 in the neighborhood and a place to play the U.S. president when he was little.

The first statue erected in the world, has two meters tall and made of bronze will be unveiled at the corner of Park Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Governor Fauzi Bowo will directly lead the dedication ceremony statue depicting Obama at age 10, when he lived in Jakarta with his mother Ann Dunham-Soetoro, Obama’s stepfather, Lolo Soetoro and his half sister, Maya.

“The statue was designed to inspire the children of Indonesia, to tell you that they can become the person they want,” said Ron Mullers, chairman of the non-profit, non-political Obama, Friends of the foundation that collects funds for this project.
“We want the kids to see this statue and say ‘wow, he’s never played around here and now he’s the leader of the world!”, He added.

10 donors who contributed to this project is Rudy Pesik, Mien R. Uno, Judith Soeryadjaya, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Prananda Surya Paloh, Norman Chen, Benny Suyudono, Adistrya Sulisto, B Channel (television) and other partners concerned.

The city officials believe this place will become a popular tourist place, along with home and school when Obama’s childhood.
